October is off to a great start!  I can already feel the "nip" in the air here in Central Florida and it's really nice to be able to turn off the air conditioner, open the doors and let the fresh air in.

We're finally settled into our new home after our move from Texas.  The move was a bit traumatic, to say the least.  Hubby and I did all the packing, unpacking, lifting and everything else associated with making a cross country move, except drive the moving van!  We love our new home in its country setting...reminds me very much of our Texas home, except with palm trees and sand hill cranes.

My studio is finally set up and I've finally started painting again.  What a pleasant surprise it was last night to get notices of two sales.  And, to make things even better, another painting sold this morning! 

I just finished re-vamping my website and love the bigger images.

Original Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Today, I'm working on two hardwood panels that I started sometime last year.  They've been sitting around in the studio for quite a while and were begging for some attention.  Stretching new canvases will have to wait while I decide what to do with these panels.  I'm finding that the cooler temperature in the studio is making the paint take much longer to dry.  The temptation to paint over partly dry paint is overwhelming

but I need to be patient or I might end up with mud, as the layers lift off the hard surface of the panel.

I've done some stenciling and applied several thin glazes over the surface.  My intent is to create a minimalist, ethereal looking piece.  I might add collage and other textural elements as I go along.  But as it dries, I think I'll just go ahead and stretch canvas in case this experiment gets put aside for another year!

Whenever I fly, usually to Florida or South Carolina to visit our family, I love to sit in the window seat.  Of course, this makes it a bit uncomfortable for my long-legged husband who is forced to sit in the middle seat.  Anyway, this painting is my impression of the view from my window high up in the sky.  The leafless trees growing along riverbeds and the fields planted with golden wheat were the inspiration for this painting.  It is still available through my website.
