Stay in Your Lane

October is off to a great start!  I can already feel the "nip" in the air here in Central Florida and it's really nice to be able to turn off the air conditioner, open the doors and let the fresh air in.

We're finally settled into our new home after our move from Texas.  The move was a bit traumatic, to say the least.  Hubby and I did all the packing, unpacking, lifting and everything else associated with making a cross country move, except drive the moving van!  We love our new home in its country setting...reminds me very much of our Texas home, except with palm trees and sand hill cranes.

My studio is finally set up and I've finally started painting again.  What a pleasant surprise it was last night to get notices of two sales.  And, to make things even better, another painting sold this morning! 

I just finished re-vamping my website and love the bigger images.

Every once in a while I like to root around in my studio closet just to see what I have stashed away since we moved here.  I found this painting I did on Yupo a couple of years ago.  If you haven't tried working on this fun material, you should. It is a synthetic (plastic) material that allows the paint to slide around on the surface, creating all sorts of interesting forms.  It was originally created as a tough, durable material for the graphic arts industry and was manufactored in a variety of thicknesses.  Somehow, a starving artist somewhere decided to try it out and suddenly discovered it made a fun surface to paint on.  Or, maybe he just had some packing material laying around the studio and accidentally dripped paint on it,  who knows, either way it's an interesting discovery.

I love to layer thin glazes of color, one over another.  As each layer begins to dry, I do a little subtractive painting to expose the layers beneath.  Heavier layers of color create more of a focal point, drawing the eye to the work to explore more of the detail.
