Dancing in the Light - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Artist Filomena Booth

Dancing in the Light
30"x24"x1.5"
Acrylic on canvas

It took me a while to think of a good title for this abstract painting.  After a great deal of thought, the playful composition reminded me of dancing.  The soft pastel colors are contrasted with the bright reds, purple and blues on the heavily textured canvas.  The canvas is stretched over 1.5" deep heavy duty bars and is ready to hang as soon as it arrives.  The painting continues around the sides so that framing is not needed.

Ice and Lace - Original Abstract Contemporary Abstract Modern Art by Texas Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Ice and Lace
36"x24"x1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas

After a busy two weeks having fun with family visiting us here in Texas, I am finally getting back into the studio.

"Ice and Lace" is my latest painting.  The canvas is heavily textured, accented with metallic gold and a collaged, lace element that adds an interest to the cool tones of this painting.

Prelude to Spring - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Prelude to Spring
36"x36"x1.5'
Acrylic on Canvas

This is a commissioned painting I just completed for a client.  The colors are very soft and muted on a very textured canvas.  I started out by using a palette knife to apply the paint on the canvas and finished by applying glazes of color to create a softer look.  I "washed" the pink in the middle of the painting and did a little spraying with water to create some texture.  Overall, I'm very pleased with this painting and hope the client will too.

Prelude - Mixed Media Abstract Contemporary Painting by Texas Artist Filomena Booth

Prelude
24"x24"x.75"
Mixed-media on canvas

Sometimes it's just nice to let loose and let the painting decide which way to go.  I searched around for all sorts of materials and mediums to pour, scratch, glaze, etc. on to the canvas.  Transparent fluid colors were poured on to the already textured canvas.  Heavy gel medium, glass bead texture gel and crackle paste all added to the interesting ways that they interacted with the fluid paint.  Accents of metallic gold and iridescent paints created a jewel-like effect.

I am offering Prelude at a very special price of $250.00 for one week only, please click here to purchase.

Come Sunrise - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Come Sunrise
36"x36"x1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas

Last week I stretched and textured several new canvases.  Seeing them sit in the studio, inspires me to pick them up and set them up on the easel.  I started this painting by applying several washes of color to establish the composition.  I slowly built up the layers as I scaped and washed out areas to expose underlying colors.  I love how the texture of the canvas changes the way light bounces off the surface, creating even more interest.

Endless Time - Original Abstract Palette Knife Modern Art Red Painting by Texas Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Endless Time
30"x40"x1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas

I recently completed this heavily textured painting by applying several coats of gesso and acrylic gels. Before the layers were dry, I scraped and scratched into the surface with a variety of tools. After blending the colors with heavy gloss gel, I applied the paint with palette knives, brushes and sponges. The sculptural quality of the painting invites the viewer to touch the surface of the canvas.

Cycle of Days - Original Abstract Painting by Contemporary Texas Artist Filomena Booth

Cycle of Days
24"x30"x.75"
Acrylic on canvas

Have I mentioned before that I love to play around with texture and a variety of techniques?  I'm sure I have!

I started this painting by texturing the canvas heavily with gesso.  I slathered it on, leaving hills and valleys and allowed it to dry.  Many layers of thin glazes of transparent acrylic, iridescent gold, thin washes of gesso and runs of water all created depth and a moody patina.

Cycle of Days is currently available through Artfulhome.  Please contact me for more information.

Daybreak - Original Abstract Expressionism Landscape Palette Knife Painting by Filomena Booth

Daybreak
36"x30"x1.5"
Acrylic on canvas

This is my latest adventure into painting with a palette knife.  I'm enjoying the process although painting with acrylics can be tricky because of the short drying time.  Even with the heavy texture, blending is difficult but I'm happy with the result.

Desert Heat

Lately I've been playing around with applying heavy layers of paint with a huge palette knife. I love the consistency of the thick paint and have been experimenting with a variety of acrylic mediums.

Asian Memories - Abstract Collage by Texas Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Asian Memories
Collage
Sold
I was recently going through my files of art I have sold in recent years and came across this small collage I created in 2008. Although I normally paint on canvas, every once in a while I get an urge to dig through my collection of emphemera that I've amassed over the years. I love playing around with various shapes, textures and colors. This little piece was especially fun to create. Guess it's time to get to my drawer full of "junk" and see what I can find!

I Believe in the Message of a Dream

I Believe in the Message of Dreams
30"x30"x1"
Acrylic/Mixed-Media on Canvas
I know, you're thinking "Where in the world did she get that title?" Titles for my paintings very often come from whatever music I happen to be listening to at the time I'm about finished with a painting. Most of the time a lyric or word jumps out and seems appropriate. I can't remember the name of the song or who sang, but part of the lyrics are - " I believe in things unseen. I believe in the message of dreams". Let me know if you can come up with the name of that particular song.
Anyway, the title seems perfect for this painting. Bits of collage, textural elements and half seen stamped letters remind me vague memories of dreams.
I currently have this painting, and several others listed on Ebay. You can also see my entire portfolio on my website.
