One of my friends recently suggested that I post a painting in progress. So, this morning I got up determined to finish a painting in one sitting. I actually got my ritual morning crossword puzzle and Suduko done quickly and headed for the studio with coffee cup in hand. Finishing a painting on the same day I start usually works out best for me. If I have to struggle with a piece for several days, I almost always end up with something that looks tight and forced. Those are the paintings that end up with another fresh coat of gesso, prepped for another start on a day when the Muse is smiling.
These three shots show the studio just before I started painting this morning at about 9:30. You can see that the canvas is already gessoed and ready to go. I also gessoed over some 10"x10" stretched canvases that have been hanging around in the studio for a while.
This picture shows the new painting in progress. I like to layer many thin glazes of acrylics, spray water, wash off, scrape, stencil, stamp and whatever else I can think of to create an interesting surface.
This is the finished painting. It was about 12:30 when I felt that the painting was done. Now I need a title...any ideas?
I'll post the "real" cropped picture tomorrow. This painting will be submitted to
ArtfulHome. I recently submitted several paintings to them to be juried for consideration on their site. They love my work but asked me to submit some work with the color red. This painting is based on one I did a while back...you can see the original painting my computer screen.
