Original Contemporary Abstract Modern Art Painting by Filomena de Andrade Booth

The Harbor by Filomena Booth Acrylic ~ 30" x 30"
The Harbor
30"x30"x1.5"
Acrylic on canvas

This painting is inspired by the docks and harbors that I visited as a child in New Jersey.  Many Sunday afternoon drives took us through the Port Newark area to watch cargo ships be loaded with goods destined for foreign lands.  If you look carefully, you'll see the loading crane and the pilings!

This heavily textured original abstract painting on canvas is wired and ready to hang.  The sides are painted a black/brown micaceous iron oxide and it does not need to be framed.  Only the finest professional acrylic paints have been used in the creation of this painting.
A signed Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Seaside I and II by Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Seaside I and II
8"x10"x2"
Mixed media on cradled panels
$100.00 each

Please contact me for purchase information

I finally got around to playing with the cradled panels I bought a while back.  I love the hard surface and the boxy look of these panels.  Both are heavily textured, distressed and accented with gold leaf and other collage materials.  The panels are sealed with an acrylic gloss varnish and are ready to hang.  The sides are painted a matte black.

The Way of the Pilgrim - Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

The Way of the Pilgrim
30"x24"x1.5"
Mixed media on canvas

I guess, that like most artists, I've accumulated tons of materials that can be incorporated into a painting.  This morning I decided to go through my "stash" and add some of them to this new painting.  Gold leaf and printed rice paper stood out and seemed to be just perfect for this heavily textured canvas.  After making some marks on the canvas to establish the composition, I started to wash in some color.  As I worked, I collaged the gold leaf and the printed paper.  I also decided to add some crackle paste, something that's been sitting on my shelf, but rarely used.  I slowly built up the surface of the painting with layer upon layer of glazed color until I finally decided that the painting was finished.  I sealed the canvas with several coats of acrylic varnish to enhance and bring out all the details that are "hidden" in the many layers of paint.

Untold Story by Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Untold Story
Acrylic on Canvas
30" x 30" x 1.5"
Sold

I've been going through my files lately and found this painting that was sold last year.  I feel like I need to get back into doing some palette-knife paintings again.  It's a little more difficult working in acrylic than it is with oil, because of the shorter drying time.  But, still worth the effort, I think.

Tuscany II Modern Abstract Painting by Texas Contemporary Artist Filomena Booth

Tuscany II
10"x10"x1.5"
Mixed media on canvas

I've never been to Italy but a trip through the Tuscan countryside is certainly on my bucket list.  I'll be sure to take my old Jansen History of Art college textbook so that I don't miss a single Michelangelo or Da Vinci!

This painting is one of a series of four pieces that were inspired by the film "Under the Tuscan Sun".  Look carefully at the heavy impasto to see the little surprises that are imbedded in the paint.

Primavera Overture - Original Abstract Painting by Texas Artist Filomena de Andrade Booth

Primavera Overture
30"x30"x1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas

We've had an unusually warm winter this year here in Central Texas and spring feels like it's about to make its debut.  As I look out my studio window and see the grasses starting to come up, along with a lot of weeds, I can't help thinking that it's time to get the garden going again.  I just hope we don't have a repeat of the record breaking heat and drought of last summer.  Hopefully all the rain we've had this winter will bring a beautiful crop of Texas wildflowers.

Getting Started Again by Filomena de Andrade Booth Texas Contemporary Abstract Artist

Equinox
30"x36"x1.5"
Acrylic on Canvas

I've written quite a bit lately about how difficult it is to get back into painting after a long hiatus away from the studio.  Today, I found some renewed motivation at my local Michael's store.  I've been thinking about painting on cradled panels and when I walked through the art section of the store, I found that they had marked almost all their cradled panels to a low clearance price.  I quickly picked up 8 new panels and now can't wait to get started on them!  Yesterday I ordered Matisse Flow Acrylics from Jerry's Artarama and I know that as soon as my order comes in, I'll be raring to get started.  Nothing like opening up a box of new art supplies to get the creative juices flowing again!

Now, my next project is to find space in my studio for all the new "toys"!

I hope you'll visit my website to see my original abstract paintings.
